31/365 - My first birth experience

Saturday morning, 24th of November 2013 - I went into labour. My auntie was just landing in London to help and Silviu left me home for a few hours to go pick her up.

They got back in time and it was all fun and games at first. We were having a laugh because the contractions were bearable, but after eight hours I was not amused anymore.

In the evening the three of us got to the hospital. I had just moved so, the hospital was now 20km away. When I got there, a midwife took my blood pressure and without any internal checks she sent me for a walk. It was freezing outside so, we went into this restaurant just opposite the hospital.

Do avoid ordering food during labour in a restaurant if you can, it is hard to keep a straight face during a contraction!

We went back to the hospital, but they considered my contractions are not as regular as the book says and again without internal checks they sent me home to take a bath with lavender oil and a nap.

At home I started bleeding so, we rushed back to the hospital.

Do avoid potholes, curves and sudden breaks during labour, those are not fun either!

I did not curse, I did not scream… it is not like in the movies. The sounds I was making sounded more like groans or whimpers.

The only option was to trust the people around me.

It is a blessing to have people that you can trust with your life. It is a blessing to have someone, anyone that cares.

Drive does not come from love, love is the drive and it can have varied shapes.

You got this!
