33/365 - First days home with a newborn baby
End of November, 2013
After I got home with a new born baby, the last thing that I even thought of was to look in the mirror. Both Silviu and my auntie looked at me a bit worried, but I never thought it was because I had bursted some veins on my neck from the push. Oh, the perks of giving birth!
While the things we do not see, do not bother us, the ones we feel, are not so easy to brush off.
It started as a dull back ache and it was getting more and more intense each day, and by day four I was crawling in pain. I kept thinking that it was a muscular pain, like a contraction and was massaging it all the time.
A midwife called me to schedule a visit at home - it is part of the NHS system, I am hopeful it still is. She was assigned to check the baby, the parents, the house etc. to make sure all is ok. Initially I was not very happy about this, as a new mum it felt invasive, but now I understand it is a great thing.
I was lying in bed when she called, ridden with pain - she must have known what was wrong with me. The way she spoke to me on the phone, got me dressed and to the hospital in minutes.
Yesterday, I spoke about someone that did not have the calling.
Today, is about people that do their job with conviction and passion. They are a rare breed unfortunately.
I cannot remember all the details of our conversation, but she said to me a few times: “You are going to get up even if it hurts, get dressed and go straight to the nearest hospital!” It did not make any difference that she was on the phone, it had the same effect as if she was next to my bed, pulling my arms to get me up.
I had a severe kidney infection. A few hours after getting the antibiotic I was finally pain free and relaxed.
She came over a couple of days after - she seemed a tough woman, I liked her!
Do what you do with passion, it changes lives forever and gives you purpose!
You got this!
