Day 1/365 - Deciding to come to London and getting scammed

10th of Aug, 2009 and one week to go till I would arrive with a friend in London whilst leaving my hubby temporarily behind in Romania.

I was 23, I had spontaneously resigned from my job at a bank a week prior and had no idea what I was doing.

The stress was peaking and on top of that I had fallen out with most of my family and decided there is no point in staying in Romania so, convinced that we (Romanians) were allowed to work in the UK at the time (more on that later), I started looking for accommodation.

I had never visited London or knew anyone in the UK.

I didn’t find accommodation, but I did end up getting scammed for €1,000. I still remember that feeling, the guilt, it was more than twice my monthly salary at the time.

‘What am I doing? Am I crazy?’ - that voice that never shuts up.

But I had belief and that was stronger than doubt, you do not mess with belief, you do not mess with mindset. It calls you, it pulls you and you will look like a mad person to anyone that has never felt it.

I ended up booking a hostel in South Kensington.

My values as a coach cannot be separated from my life experiences, they made me. Courage to be uncomfortable.

So, mindset will always be first on my list. I will be the first to acknowledge that that is the biggest, hardest job and unfortunately NO ONE will ever do it for you. That job is never done and some days are easier than others. Sometimes it’s a life altering decision, sometimes it’s just putting one step in front of the other and they can feel just as hard.
