Money-tree talk - "Will training once a week be enough?"

£20 notes resting in a green leafy plant

Yesterday we got asked this question and most new clients will bring it up at one point in our first chat. We decided to write an article about it to break things down and maybe give you some clarity if you are considering personal coaching.

Affordability vs training for optimal health

From our experience the real question is actually one of the two: "I can only afford to train once a week, will that be enough?" then the answer is yes, but if the question is "I want to live for as long as I can, be stronger and healthier. Will once a week be enough?" then the answer is no.

Let's break it down.

For optimal health purposes training once a week is not enough. Period. But having a weekly session with a trainer (if that is all you can budget for) and supplementing that with other activities, it could be would be a good way to stay fit. At Strength and Mindset we encourage our clients to take snap shots of the whiteboards at the end of the workouts or write their exercises on their own training log during sessions and once we reach the conclusion that they can safely repeat the program alone we encourage them to do that. It can take up to a few months for us to make sure that posture and technique are not an issue and the client can train on their own.

Ok, but let's talk money!

Is it worth it to get a personal trainer?

You must think that we are biased and we could never tackle this question fairly, but we are not going to sugar coat this, personal coaching is not cheap. We can only talk about London, UK because this is where we live. The price per session with an experienced personal trainer, depending on the area in London will jump over £40 (easily!) and can go up to £70 per session. In Central London prices can go up to £120/session.

But that's it, you made up your mind! You want to be stronger, healthier and you don't want to feel like you are going to have a heart attack every time you go up the stairs. You spend hours and hours working and you finally want to invest in yourself! You deserve this, because you are the best investment of all!

What does one training session a week give you?

One session a week will turn out to be 52 sessions a year! 52 hours of training and education, that will reflect in your mental health, strength, confidence, sleep patterns, ability to deal with stress and many, many other benefits!

Weigh this in, your body is your temple, you inhabit this shell for all your life. What is the real value of educating yourself to be able to exercise properly and confidently forever?
